Dating back to the 1590s levens Hall is one of the finest stately homes in Cumbria. The Hall is famous for its historic Topiary Garden laid out in 1694. The house contains fine furniture, paintings and one of the best examples of Spanish leather wall coverings; the earliest english patchwork; Wellingtonia, pictures and miniatures.
At some time in the past there were gates hanging from the massive 4m high stone pillars at the house entrance. These had long since been removed or perhaps collapsed with age. The design of some smaller carriage drive gates (see photo below) were used as a starting point for the style of new main gates.
Now installed and automated the Levens Hall gates provide security to the house and are in keeping with the tradition of the property. The Levens Hall gates by Peter Weldon Iron Designs Ltd appear to have been hanging at the Hall entrance for years.
