Proprietor John Wigfield contacted me six months ago with a request to design and fabricate a bandstand for his hotel. The hotel offers services for wedding parties and wishes to apply for a licence for civil services to be held on site in the garden. In order for couples to be legally married out of doors the bandstand complies with the legal requirement of having a fixed roof. This is a new development for wedding ceremonies and with the bandstand overlooking miles of open fields John anticipates many bookings at the hotel.

After planning permission was granted I began to design the structure for him, concentrating on the art nouveau style which is in character with the hotel. A striking and unusual bandstand was created; a one- off design specifically for Cubley Hall. Organic leafy pattern work curls around the railings, and a vine motif forms a distinctive arch between each cast iron column. The entrance is gated to restrict access at the top of stone stairs.
